AsiaGlobal Fellows is AsiaGlobal Institute’s fellowship initiative focusing on leaders across the world with an interest in public policy. As shared on their website, the program aims to nurture future leaders and create influencers with a deeper understanding of global issues from Asian perspectives. Further, it provides platforms for leaders to explore timely and critical issues in an informed and objective manner.
Our founder and executive director, Agita Pasaribu, was inducted into this year’s cohort of fellows. Her work in preventing and addressing online gender-based violence under Bullyid App brought her to discussions on forming and enacting policies on digital safety across the globe. Alongside 18 other fellows, she took part in lectures and discussion sessions, visits to local institutions, knowledge exchange, mentorships, research, and seminars.
Through this opportunity, Agita was able to focus on an emerging threat in the digital safety sphere: deepfake technology. With the rapid growth of generative AI, perpetrators have been able to create and share AI-generated deepfakes on multiple social media platforms. This emergence was also reflected in our work as we began seeing more AI-enabled harm through synthetic sexual imagery.
