GivingTuesday, a global grassroots movement founded with a radical generosity ethos, announced the 2021 cohort of the Starling Collective in October 2021. It is described as “a global fellowship designed to upskill grassroots leaders through community building, movement learning, peer support, and connection to GivingTuesday’s global network of movement leaders,” and consists of grassroots activists, artists, organizers, and changemakers.
From nearly 2,000 applications from around the world, 50 applicants were selected to receive an intensive six-month training on skills that are essential to movement building, including storytelling, mobilization, sustainability, and measurement. They also received microgrants to support leadership development or accelerate on-the-ground work.
As the only alumnus representing Indonesia, Agita Pasaribu stood out for her work in combating online gender-based violence under Bullyid App. Our participation also emphasized the importance of meeting people where they’re at to create positive change. By utilizing our knowledge in movement building, we were able to scale our services to serve more internet users in Indonesia and the world.
